Artist's Biography

 

Deborah Weinreb Jacobsen is a San Francisco Bay Area jewelry artist. Her design business developed out of a life long love affair with one-of-a-kind art, and a desire to  see originality expressed in unique jewelry that enhances the natural beauty of women. Influenced in particular by Asian art, Deborah's pieces are timeless and contemporary. They appeal to confident women who want to make a statement, while retaining
their femininity.

Lovingly handcrafted from a wide range of materials -- fossils, pearls, seeds, glass, wood, shells, sterling silver, vermeil, gold, semi-precious stones, stalactites, and even Mah Jong tiles, Deborah creates compositions of striking originality. Of her design philosophy she says, "I combine materials in novel and unusual ways. I have no desire to be influenced by mass-market appeal or predictable patterns. Rather, I let the beauty of the natural materials dictate the design."

 


The resulting pieces are original works of art. Her clients refer to them as "distinctive", and are no longer surprised by the compliments they receive while wearing them. Others have described Deborah's jewelry as ethnic, organic, contemporary and unique. Because of the striking way in which she contrasts colors, shapes, materials, forms, and finishes, Deborah's work has also received special recognition at numerous mixed media jury shows.

Deborah uses only the highest quality beading materials and findings, which provide strength and durability. Her designs include necklaces, with optional matching earrings, and functional pieces, such as eyeglass fobs. Deborah's business includes custom work often incorporating your treasures into new works of art. Jewelry repair is also available. Deborah is currently a member of two artisan co-ops that provide an opportunity to participate in a learning artistic community. Based on a long-held belief of giving back to the community, Deborah also donates one significant piece of jewelry to a charity each month. Some organizations she has supported are: Marin Theater Company, Beyond Hunger, Marin Breast Cancer Council, Redwood High School, Guide Dogs for the Blind and Hospice of Marin.

 

Awards

Deborah Jacobsen has been recognized and honored with many awards for her custom and innovative jewelry designs.  Her designs placed 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Place in the 2006 California State Fair.  Judge's comments included: "The color combination is aesthetically pleasing...nicely finished...nice clasp and attention to finishing details." 

Her designs also received awards at the 2006 Marin County Fair, including "Best of Show" and a designated "Special Award". 

In 2007, Deborah Jacobsen Designs received 2nd Place for 4 of her jewelry designs, from the Marin County Fair.  At the California State Fair,  all 6 entered necklaces were accepted and received Honorable Mention.
